Overview

The Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce is described as Jamaica’s Business Ministry. It’s mandate is to lead the development of policies that will create growth and jobs, while achieving social inclusion and consumer protection. The Ministry, working its stakeholders is primarily responsible for business policy development, monitoring and evaluation, while giving direction and oversight to a cluster of implementing departments and agencies.

Substantially improve the collaboration between Government Ministries and Agencies to produce higher economic growth, increased and sustained job creation, and a much higher level of exports by targeting and securing greater local and foreign investments.

Divisions

Commerce

The Commerce Division creates policies and programs to foster a stable, competitive business environment in Jamaica, promoting trade, exports, and investments while balancing domestic and regional interests.

Industry

The Industry Division supports sectors like manufacturing, services, scrap metal, medical cannabis, and emerging industries through research, policies, programs, projects, and business support services.

International Trade Unit

The International Trade Unit provides technical support and advice on trade policy, focusing on market access, rules of origin, tariffs, competition, and technical barriers to trade.

ISO Quality Systems

The ISO Quality Systems Division (ISO QSD) focuses on implementing the ISO 9001 Quality Management System Standard in public sector entities and medium-sized private entities. It promotes continual service quality improvement to enhance service excellence, ease of doing business, and attract investments in Jamaica.

Trade Facilitation

In January 2016, Jamaica signed the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), which took effect on February 22, 2017. The Ministry of Industry, Investment, and Commerce (MIIC) oversees the implementation of the country’s Trade Facilitation (TF) Reform Agenda.

Investment

The Investment Division focuses on fostering business development by developing and implementing investment policies, strategies, programs, and projects to encourage domestic and international investments, promoting sustainable development.

MSME

The MSME Division in Jamaica is responsible for implementing policies, strategies, projects,
and developing alliances to promote the growth and development of the MSME sector.
